About Our Therapists

Stefan Chase, LCSW
(he/him)
I use a holistic approach to therapy, which means valuing all aspects of your life and their impact on your wellbeing. I look beyond traditional diagnoses and definitions to better understand your experiences and unique human-ness.
I see my role as a guide, someone to help you expand your perspective on your identity and journey so that you feel empowered to live your best life. Additionally, I believe you are the expert on yourself, so I look to you for understanding your culture, background, and unique qualities.
Ultimately, I hope we can work together to find the root of your pain and discover life-long solutions.
I believe in practicing what I preach by making time for my own growth and wellbeing. In my personal life, I enjoy hiking in the mountains (with my partner and our dog), bouldering, writing, playing D&D, listening to podcasts, and tending to our many indoor plants. Feel free to say "hi" if you see me on a trail or at the climbing gym!
Professional Background
After completing my bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2017, I spent a year working with youth on the Autism spectrum as well as volunteering with an equine-assisted therapy clinic. This was the kindling for the fire of my passion for mental health. The following year I returned to school to complete my Master of Social Work degree at Brigham Young University. During that time, I worked in a variety of settings including Outback Therapeutic Expeditions, a wilderness therapy program for teens. From this I gained an appreciation for Eco-therapy and the role nature can play in our recovery and wellbeing. I also interned with Wasatch Behavioral Health where I provided one-on-one and group therapy for a wide variety of individuals. I became even more aware of the unique needs that exist in Utah County, especially for minority populations, those experiencing religious trauma, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
In addition to my clinical work, I am a published author in the Global Journal of Health Science, a peer-reviewed academic journal. Researching and writing in this way has helped me develop both a research-informed and culturally sensitive approach to my therapy work. You can read the paper here.

In the time since receiving my master’s I have worked in private practice and hospice care. I found working with those who were dying or grieving the loss of their loved ones to be uniquely powerful. Because of this, I have invested much of my post-graduate learning into therapies associated with the role that grief, loss, death, and meaning play in our overall wellbeing. I believe that these aspects are important to all of us, regardless of our age or stage of life. As a result, I’m deeply inspired by the work of Irvin Yalom, Rollo May, Carl Yung, and Viktor Frankl.

When I work with individuals, I tailor therapy to the person sitting in front of me. I really enjoy working with teens and connecting with them through the things they care about, whether that’s hobbies, video games, or whatever matters to them. I’m especially drawn to Narrative Therapy, which explores the stories we tell about ourselves and how those stories shape our identity, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps us change patterns of thinking so we can shift how we feel and respond.
I also work extensively with couples and families, drawing from approaches like The Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Structural Family Therapy. Whether you are going through a divorce, struggling with parenting, newly married, or trying to navigate other family relationships I can help. Some of my favorite moments in therapy are creating impactful moments and then something clicks and my clients begin to see each other with new understanding and empathy.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife and our two kids. You’ll often find me in the kitchen trying to perfect a new recipe. For my own self-care, I enjoy playing video games with friends, watching kung-fu movies, and reading sci-fi and fantasy novels.
Professional Background
I earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Arizona State University and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Arizona and Utah.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a financial advisor serving active duty military members and veterans. While that work was meaningful, I eventually realized my true passion was helping people more directly in their personal lives and relationships.
After completing my masters degree I worked at a community mental health clinic where I served wonderful people struggling with a wide range of situations. I’ve helped people navigating terminal illness, financial stressors, and a variety of traumas. A few years later I joined a private practice in Phoenix and became a clinical supervisor to help students on their path to becoming therapists. I love teaching and mentoring new clinicians so they can become great therapists themselves.

Hello there! I'm glad you're interested in therapy and learning more about what I can offer. I graduated with a Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy from Utah State University. My post graduate work has focused on treating trauma and PTSD using protocols such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I have found a trauma informed approach allows us to treat root problems rather than pursuing short term gains by addressing only symptoms. I use a variety of evidence based treatments including the following:
-
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
-
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
I believe there is a balance in the therapeutic relationship. Sometimes structured therapy is needed to help you achieve your goals. Other times a more relaxed environment is more conducive to healing. We will find the right balance for you. In my personal life, I make healing my own inner child a priority by building Lego, painting miniatures for elaborate D&D campaigns, and gaming with my partner and friends.
